The 34th-annual Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John's, formerly known as the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance, will host a selection of Slingshot rail drag cars this year, in addition to the Duesenbergs, Pierce-Arrows and Cords. The cars get their name from the rearward positioning of the driver seat behind the rear axle.
Slotted between Aston Martin's vaunted V8 Vantage and the venerable V12 variant comes a tweener model that promises to be anything but vague: Aston is adding the S variant, with more power and an upgraded transmission. The Vantage S draws power from the 4.7-liter V8 making 430 hp, 10 hp more than in the base Vantage. The S also adds 15 lb-ft of torque, boosting total twist to 361 lb-ft.
The end of Monterey Week is always a bittersweet affair for me. It's a year's worth of preparation and anticipation that leads to eight to 10 days of long days and longer nights filled with both work and fun.
